Perched majestically over the village of Krakaudorf you will find the Kalvarienberg. Surrounded by stunning views a path, which tells of the suffering of Jesus, leads you through lovely countryside to the Crucifixion Chapel. Hand-carved and hand-painted figures in small wooden shrines depict the Passion of Christ.
Stations of the Cross
Our pilgrimage starts at theKalvarienberg Chapel just to the south of the local junior school.
In this chapel which was built in 1790 by Hans Tockner, known as Haswa, you will find a wooden, painted crucifixion scene consisting of Jesus on the cross with the two thieves and below them John, Mary und Magdalena. When the new school house here was built in 1968 these figures had to make way for more modern sculptures. In 1982 Max Gröller the local forester had the group of figures restored and managed to get them put back in their former place. Their final resting place is now this chapel which was renovated in 2011.
